Paper Mario bento
It’s been a while again since my last post. I’ve prepared several bento from last week so I can write about them in coming days.
Since I’ve made my Mario theme halloween bento in October last year I always wanted to make the Mario himself. Several months ago I didn’t think that I could do it but right now I think that I can make any characters in the world. The key is finding a good picture and then making a good planning ahead.
So I made this bento as a tribute to Mario and all Mario fans out there. I always feel nostalgic when I look at the character, remembering happy memories of the past and the inspiration it gave me until today for its charm, fantasy, humor, and all sorts of good emotions. I still have an unfinished Mario Galaxy but with all sorts of other life activities I just don’t have some spare time to play it.
Anyway, the Paper Mario was made with five different colors egg sheets, cut with art knife and assembled together. It’s very easy compared to my other kyaraben since basically it only contain two layers (the third layer just an “M” letter on the hat). The bonus point was there’s no nori involved ^_^
I also wanted to add more Mario theme decorations so I made a simple fire flower from a half cherry tomato, cheese slice, sesame seeds for eyes, and edamame pods for the leaves. I still have room for more and extra cheese so I added the invisibility star cut with vegetable cutter and also used sesame seeds for the eyes.
For the bento filling, I put two homemade pork and shrimp meatballs (entire families’ favorite) decorated with animal food picks, broccoli chunks, cucumber (below the fire flower), and baby corns.

Very cute! Mario is my 2 little brothers favorite. I remembered they love to play Mario’s video game on the weekend when we were little. Great cut on the egg sheet, well done!
Hello Lia, yes it was a great time. You didn’t play yourself, just watching your brother playing?
mario came out great, and i especially love your technique and imagination with the fire flower and invisible star… next time i would like to request a 1-up mushroom please!
Hello megan/gamene ^_^
I’ll definitely served up the 1 UP mushroom next time I make Mario theme bento again
Thank you so much for making a Mario and telling how you did it. I am going to try making bento lunches for my son who will be in the 1st grade. We looked at some pictures last night and saw a lot of Mario’s but none that explained how they did it!!!! He turned out really well!
