Marvel Superheroes Theme Onigiri Bento

I made this set as a complimentary for Jojo’s school friends to celebrate his 5th birthday. We asked him what theme that he wanted for his birthday party and he gave us different answers each week, ranging from zombies, hot wheels, ball, and finally settled on marvel superheroes theme. During that time I haven’t made any new kyaraben theme since most of our orders were repeat from our previous work. So it’s a good time to start a new theme to refresh my mind.

I grew up with Marvel characters so I know all of their main characters (Spiderman, X-Men, Captain America, Hulk, Fantastic Four, etc.) and most of their secondary characters like Doctor Strange, Punisher, etc. I know them well enough but there are not many references for Marvel theme bento since most of kyaraben ever made are based on Japanese (and Disney) characters, so I really had to give a lot of thought about how to proceed with the preparation.

The easiest way was to make them all cutting characters but while they will look good most people like to see onigiri style bento because they think they’re cuter and more special (based on hundreds customers input). I always hold back making lots of onigiri style before because they are taking lots of time to make during delivery day compared to cutting characters while they’re more time consuming but they can be prepared a day before thus making our morning less hectic. The other reason was my assistants were not experienced enough making onigiri but as times goes by I felt confident that they can do it. There’s no point making one great looking kyaraben in 15 minutes for catering business. Imagine if we must prepare 200 kyaraben set a day.

After lots back and forth thinking, here’s the final result.I will take on each heroes on serialized posts, hopefully I can finish them all in a week time.
