Grilled salmon halloween bento
Continuing with my first Halloween bento from yesterday, I made this one based on my sketch a few days earlier. The sketch was inspired from the ghost from Mario games, not exactly the same since I only drew it from my memory and imagination.
I didn’t see that someone already made the rice mold for this so I had to made the ghost onigiri with my own palm. I made them into a ball shape first and then squeeze them around a little here and there into the shape I wanted. The result was not bad, I really wanted sharper tails for them but too afraid they might break if I pulled too hard.
The sleight change from the Mario ghost was their teeth. While I still remembered that they have lots of sharp teeth, I made my version with vampire teeth (left ghost) and a pair of horns (right ghost). I think the horns failed their purpose since they didn’t look like horns, but they’re still cute ^o^
The quail skulls were direct copy from e-obento, IMO the best bento sites I’ve found on the web, it’s in Japanese but we can see the pictures, they’re all amazing. I used to study the bento from there and analyze how they were made. I used two different size of straw to cut the skulls’ eyes and nose, then sculpting the jaw with knife.
For the filling, grilled salmon marinated with soy sauce, honey, and black pepper, two boiled shrimp, edamame on foodpick, broccoli chunks, a cherry tomato, and grapes.
I’m quite happy with the final result, the salmon also tasted great. My wife said the bento was not scary at all but I didn’t want to make people screaming ^_^
